Meet Pauline Spolaore, Bioprocess Team Manager and R&D Coordinator at Biospringer

Pauline Spolaore, Bioprocess Team Manager and Research & Development (R&D) Coordinator, answered a few questions about her career at Biospringer for the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

Tell us about your professional background

I am a bioprocess engineer with a PhD in chemical engineering. I joined the Lesaffre group in 2010 as a Process Optimization Engineer in the Maisons-Alfort fermentation workshop. After 1 year, I joined the R&D department where I became a Research Project Manager. Today, I manage the R&D bioprocess team under Rudy Menin, the head of the department.

What changes have you seen since you joined the company?

There has been a real growth and diversification of the activities linked to nutrition and health. This growth has been supported by the structuration of Lesaffre Business Units and the innovation process. Today, we have day-to-day interactions with people all around the world. That makes our work very rich, exciting and motivating!

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?

My responsibilities are divided into two main parts. First, there is a technical part. I participate in research projects with different types of objectives, develop new products, provide technical support to factories, and increase our knowledge.  The second and main part of my work is dedicated to the team and activity coordination.

What is your favorite part of the job?

I like science. It is always satisfying to discover a good experimental result or build a nice graph… I also like people. The richness of my job comes from my team. They are all different. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and we have our ups and downs. There is no routine in the management of a team!

Would you like to add anything else?

During the last few months, the humane qualities shared by Biospringer collaborators have taken even more meaning. I hope that vaccination will help us eliminate the virus in the near future and hope everyone stays safe.
